This is a little more about the little boy who is inspiring all of this. Leo was born in February this year and delighted us all with his sweet and gentle nature. He was our easy going boy who loved the attention he got from his big brother and sister who adored him. He was such a joy to be with and we all fell more in love with him every day.
When we first learned of his advanced brain tumor on July 15th, he was nearly 5 months old. There were no clear signs that anything was seriously wrong before this day so we were shocked to learn the tumor was taking up roughly a third of the space in his skull. Following surgery to remove more than half the tumor, Leo had started arching his back in discomfort. His daddy immediately set to work giving massages to Leo every day and most of the time twice a day. The tension in Leo’s body melted away at his daddy’s gentle touch.
You couldn’t find a more committed daddy. After we kissed Leo for the last time on October 31st, his daddy and I knew we wanted something we could wear to always remember him by. I chose a simple necklace and Sunil decided he would have a special ring made while he was in Nepal setting up support for our first families. These small symbols of our love for him can remind us every day of our strong and gentle boy. He was our ‘Singha Bir’ or ‘Great Lion’ who bore the name of Sunil’s grandfather. We are grateful to God for the privilege of being his parents and will treasure the memory of his beautiful spirit until we are one day reunited.
